The Situation

The treatment gap – the proportion of people with mental illness who don’t get treatment - is generally believed to be 90% in Nigeria and a lot of the other African countries are not doing very well in this regard. There is the issue of stigma against those with emotional or mental issues and the mistaken belief that it cannot be treated. Generally, emotional and mental health is currently not enjoying enough airplay considering how important it is in the scheme of things. People would jolly well treat physical ailments quicker than they would do emotional and mental health illness. The ratio can be said to be Cheetah : Snail pace at best.

Defending Yourself Against Rapists as a Woman

Rape Defence Tips The usual rape position is 'woman down on her back and man on top of her' As a woman, if you find yourself in this position as seen in the video, take these steps: 1. Push the rapist away from you by his biceps. 2. Place your two feet firmly on his hips 3. Doing number 1 would give you enough room to manoeuvre your feet 4. Deliver a couple of good kicks to his chin 5. Then seal it up with another kick to his groin 6. He would be on the floor by now 7. Get up and run! 8. Keep running as that is the best form of defence.

How to Overcome Anxiety

This young lady, Maddy, came home to an empty house. She sure was not expecting that as her parents didn't tell they'd be going on vacation to Mexico. She was disappointed and alone, except that the sneaky dark voice of anxiety will not leave her be! *her friend Cassandra pings her, asking that they go out together* Anxiety:Do you really think they wanna go out with you? Come on Madeline, they pity you! *Madeline deploys all of her willpower to ignore the sneaky voice, replies her friend that she can't wait to see her and starts dressing up.* Anxiety: What's wrong... Did you actually think for a second that make up is going to make you attractive? Because that's wrong! *Madeline beginning to feel drained, drops the lip gloss. Then she starts trying on different outfits with each meeting with scathing condemnation from Anxiety* Anxiety: Oh, that makes you look sad! Oh, that wouldn't add to your beauty or something...etc *Maddy exasperated now, gives up on going out and opted to study instead. Still the dark voice of Anxiety continues to haunt her* Anxiety: Oh, you're going to study? You're not going to pass no matter how hard you try. No one believes in you. You can't even believe in yourself! Maddy: *speaks to herself aloud* What are you doing? Just breathe. Ignore it. Anxiety: You can try all you want, but we both know I'm not going anywhere. You can't get rid of me, Madeline. *Maddy texts her friend that she's not going to make it to the outing* Her friend calls her to snap out of her overthinking and come out to have fun with them. She asks her to go ahead and have fun without her as she's not up to it at the moment. She gets into bed in dejection, still Anxiety came for her. Anxiety: This is the perfect time to get here, while you are trying to sleep. He hasn't texted you back, has he? I know you've trying not to think about it, he could be dating or he could be sleeping with someone else. After all, you're not that special, Madeline. And what about your friends? They are probably having more fun since you cancelled. They only invite you because they pity you. *Maddy's phone rings then and she springs up from bed. It was Cassandra* Anxiety: Where do you think you are going? *Madeline ignores her and resumes dressing up* Anxiety: (livid now) We talked about it, Madeline. *Madeline continues dressing up, ignoring her* Anxiety: You're making a mistake! Madeline: (calls her friends back) Hey guys! Yeah. I'm on my way. See you soon. Anxiety: They don't want you there. You can't just go! *Maddy walks away confidently while Anxiety fumes*
